Caffeine and Protein in One Product: Why the Combo Is Suddenly Everywhere
STAT Bar TeamLast reviewed
Caffeine and protein are showing up together because people were already pairing them. They grabbed a can and a protein bar, or cold brew with high-protein milk. In October 2026, a major energy drink company previewed a canned protein shake with caffeine, and a plant-protein company launched a caffeinated protein drink.

Why is caffeine plus protein suddenly everywhere?
Two launches in one week made it hard to miss. On October 14, 2026, Food Dive reported that a major energy drink company had unveiled a canned protein shake at the NACS convenience-store show, with 30g of protein and 160mg of caffeine, as part of a 2027 lineup set to start rolling out in January. A day later, a plant-protein company announced a sparkling protein drink with 20g of protein and 160mg of caffeine from coffee beans and guarana extract, and Food Dive described it as a move into "a growing segment of energy protein drinks."
One number to watch: if you saw 200mg attached to that canned shake, Food Dive's report lists 160mg for the shake and 200mg for separate espresso drinks in the same lineup. Caffeine and protein in one bar is not new either; it's exactly what caffeine protein bars like STAT were built around.
People were doing it by hand first
Long before the launches, people were building the combo themselves. One post on X on October 7, 2026 called an energy drink plus a protein bar "breakfast." Another, on October 1, suggested making cold brew with high-protein milk, calling it the protein energy drink people keep asking for. And in September, one person on X asked the question plenty of shift workers already live by: "Is protein and caffeine enough to survive?"
The appeal is simple. On a long day with no real break, carrying one thing beats carrying two.
Drinks, bars, snacks: the formats
- Canned protein shakes with caffeine: a ready-to-drink shake that also carries a caffeine dose.
- Sparkling protein drinks with caffeine: a lighter, carbonated drink with protein and caffeine.
- Caffeinated protein bars: a bar you eat, with the caffeine and the protein both printed on the wrapper. See our coffee protein bar guide for how coffee flavor and caffeine differ.
- Beyond food and drink: caffeine is also showing up in new formats such as caffeine pouches, which carry caffeine but no protein.
How to read a caffeine and protein label
- Caffeine in milligrams. Look for a printed number. If the ingredients list a caffeine source but no milligrams, you can't count it.
- The caffeine source. The ingredient list tells you where it comes from: coffee, coffee fruit extract, guarana, tea or added caffeine.
- Protein per serving. Check grams of protein and the serving size, since one container can hold more than one serving.

Where STAT fits
We've all been there: it's 3am, there are six hours left on your shift, and the next call could come any second. That's the moment STAT Energy Bar was made for: power when seconds count. Each bar has 100mg of caffeine for alertness and energy, about what's in a cup of coffee, plus 16 to 19g of protein and 0g added sugar. It's caffeine and protein you can eat in two minutes, then get right back to work. Most protein bars have no caffeine at all, but STAT has 100mg, along with maca, ashwagandha, cordyceps and reishi across the three flavors, in for flavor. If you like chocolate, the Chocolate bar uses coffee fruit extract. If you're a coffee person, Peanut Butter Espresso and Salted Caramel Coffee use real coffee plus coffee fruit extract. Tuck a couple in your locker for the nights you can't stop for a meal.
STAT Energy Bars put both in one bar: 100mg of caffeine per bar and 16 to 19g of protein, depending on flavor (Chocolate 16g, Peanut Butter Espresso 17g, Salted Caramel Coffee 19g). Shop caffeine protein bars, or see all three flavors on the STAT shop.
